Find Me Eats

Find Me Eats is an innovative startup with a simple but powerful mission: make it effortless for food lovers to discover and enjoy the best food trucks in their city. Founded by Terry Grier, the company recognized that the food truck industry — a $1.4 billion market growing at 6.8% annually — was being held back by a fundamental discoverability problem. Food trucks move. Customers don't know where they are. Social media posts get buried. Google Maps listings go stale. The result: great food trucks with empty lines, and hungry customers who can't find them.

The Challenge

The Problem

The food truck industry faces a unique set of challenges that traditional restaurant technology cannot solve. Food trucks are mobile by definition — their location changes daily, sometimes multiple times per day. Customers cannot simply search for a fixed address. Menu items rotate based on ingredient availability and seasonal inspiration. Operating hours are irregular and weather-dependent.

The core challenge was building a platform that could serve four distinct user groups with fundamentally different needs: customers who want to find and order from nearby food trucks effortlessly; vendors who need streamlined tools to manage their mobile operations; platform administrators managing subscriptions, ads, and content; and a super admin layer providing centralized oversight.

Each stakeholder group required its own purpose-built application, yet all four platforms needed to share real-time data seamlessly. A customer searching for a taco truck at 11:45 AM needs to see which trucks are actually open, where they are right now, and what's on today's menu — not yesterday's.

Our Approach

4 Phases. 16 weeks.

Flynaut designed and developed four interconnected platforms: a customer-facing mobile app for food truck discovery and ordering, a vendor app for food truck operators, a web admin panel for platform management, and a super admin panel for centralized oversight — all unified by real-time location services and integrated order management.

01

Discovery & Platform Architecture

3 weeks

We immersed ourselves in the food truck ecosystem — attending food truck rallies, interviewing vendors about their operational pain points, and studying how customers currently discover mobile food vendors. We mapped the complete user journey for each of the four stakeholder groups and designed a unified data architecture that could serve all four platforms from a single real-time backend.

Food truck operators told us their biggest frustration wasn't getting customers — it was the operational overhead of managing their presence on six different social media platforms, three listing sites, and their own outdated website. They needed one tool, not ten.

02

Customer Mobile App Development

5 weeks

Built a visually engaging customer-facing mobile application with real-time GPS-based food truck discovery, menu browsing with high-quality food photography, integrated ordering with estimated pickup times, and a personalized recommendation engine based on cuisine preferences and order history. The UI was designed to feel like a food adventure — vibrant, intuitive, and aligned with the excitement of discovering something new.

We designed the map view as the default home screen rather than a list view. Food truck discovery is inherently spatial — 'what's near me right now' — and the map-first experience drove 3x more truck visits than list-based alternatives we A/B tested.

03

Vendor App & Admin Panels

5 weeks

The vendor application was built as a complete mobile command center for food truck operators — order tracking and management, real-time location broadcasting, menu management with photo uploads, schedule and route planning, and revenue analytics. Simultaneously, we built the web admin panel for managing vendor subscriptions, platform advertisements, and content moderation, plus a super admin panel providing centralized monitoring of all platform activities.

We added a one-tap 'Go Live' button for vendors that simultaneously updates their GPS location, sets their status to open, and pushes a notification to nearby customers who've favorited that truck. Vendors told us it was the single feature that made them fall in love with the platform.

04

Integration, Testing & Strategic Launch

3 weeks

Unified all four platforms through comprehensive API integration testing. Implemented real-time GPS tracking, push notification infrastructure, payment processing, and subscription management. Flynaut also provided strategic marketing support — running digital discovery campaigns, featuring vendor success stories, and social media promotions highlighting trending trucks and customer experiences.

The launch strategy targeted food truck festivals and events first, onboarding 15 trucks in a single weekend event. Those vendors brought their existing customers to the app, creating an organic growth flywheel that drove the first 500 downloads without paid advertising.

Expanding

The speed of vendor adoption — 60+ food trucks within the first three months — validated our bet on building the vendor app with the same level of polish as the customer app. Vendors became ambassadors. When the person running the truck loves the tool, they tell every food truck owner they meet at events and commissaries.

Reflections

What This Project Taught Us

Building a marketplace platform for mobile vendors is fundamentally different from building a platform for fixed-location businesses. Every assumption about location, availability, and scheduling has to be rethought. The platform has to be as mobile as the vendors it serves.

Vendor adoption is the chicken-and-egg problem of every marketplace. We solved it by making the vendor app genuinely valuable as a standalone business tool — even if zero customers used the platform, vendors got route planning, menu management, and analytics they couldn't get anywhere else.

The food truck industry runs on community. Every design decision had to respect the culture — these are independent operators, often owner-chefs, who chose food trucks specifically because they value independence and creativity. The platform had to empower them, not corporatize them.
